How to Create Your Own Karaoke Tracks
Nothing brings everyone together quite like the soothing (and sometimes screeching) sounds of a karaoke party. Unfortunately, certain songs that you or your cohorts want to sing aren't available in "karaoke track" form, meaning the only way to let the audience hear you is by trying to scream louder than the lead singer on the original track. Luckily, there's a simple way to create your own karaoke tracks with easy-to-use software on your computer.
Instructions
-
-
1
Download an audio editing program. A free version that is easy to use is Audacity.
-
2
Open the program and insert the file you want to change into a karaoke track.
-
-
3
Click on the arrow next to the track title to open the track menu. There, choose the option to "Split Stereo Track."
-
4
Select the bottom of the two tracks by clicking on the area that is near the buttons for mute and solo. Go into the "Effects" menu and click the option to "Invert."
-
5
Click on "Mono" in the track menus. This will change your output from stereo to mono for this track.
-
6
Press the play button to test it out. The vocals should be hidden in the background of the music, creating your karaoke track.
-
7
Burn the tested track onto a CD or save it as an .mpg. Upload the file into some kind of karaoke program and commence rocking out.

Tips & Warnings
If the vocal is still on the track during the test, that means the vocals were mixed in an unusual way on the original track. The only way to fix that is through a trial-and-error process by playing with the different mixes in the track. Find the one that's most suitable for you--whichever possibility hides the vocals further in the background--and burn that to a CD.
