Instructions

  1. Making the sock

    • 1

Use scissors to cut the legs off of the pants. Cut straight across so that the opening will be even. Use the scissors to cut the lower half of the pants leg into long strips.

    • 2

Use the hand held office hole puncher to make holes in the large end of the pants leg. Make the holes about two inches apart all the way around. These are the spots where the fabric will be anchored to the hoop.

    • 3

Cover the holes on both sides of the pants leg with the circular reinforcement labels.

    • 4

Place the macrame hoop into the large opening of the pants leg. Use the blunt tipped darning needle to run yarn or string through each reinforced hole and over the hoop. This will securely attach the hoop to keep the mouth of the windsock open.

    • 5

Cut 4 separate 18 inch pieces of string. Tie one piece of string to each of the four corner holes in the windsock.

    • 6

Use the wire pliers (adults only) to cut the bottom section out of a hanger. Bend up one end of the wire into a loop. Hold the other end of the wire with the pliers and use your fingers to wrap the wire around the tip of the bamboo pole 5 or 6 times leaving about two inches of wire sticking out behind the loop.

    • 7

Tie the ends of the four strings to the hanger wire loop. Now you are ready to take your wind sock outside and stick it in the ground or mount it in a flag pole holder on the side of the house.

Tips & Warnings

  • For a festive look use streamers of silk ribbon or a Japanese kite dragon as a windsock.

  • Pay attention to safety when doing crafts. Remember, safety is always goal number one.
