1
Stand in front of a floor-length mirror in your underwear. Use the mirror as a guide when measuring different areas of the body.
-
2
Wrap the measuring tape around your waist. Use the mirror to judge that the tape is straight and even. Make sure that the measuring tape is snug, but not tight around your waist. Bring the measuring tape together directly over the center of your waist. Make sure that you take the measurement where the zero overlaps the other number. Record the measurement.

3
Place the measuring tape around one of your thighs at the widest part. Double-check that the tape is straight and not twisted before recording the measurement.
-
4
Measure your abdomen at the largest part. If your are a plus-sized woman or have wider proportions at your abdomen, this is crucial for selecting the best fit for a garter belt. Look in the mirror and make sure that the measuring tape is straight, and make any adjustments if needed. If your abdomen is a lot larger than your waist, it is a good idea to select a size larger than your waist size.

Tips & Warnings
If possible, ask a good friend or spouse to help measure your body. This is the easiest way to take measurements. However, you can do all the measuring yourself with the use of a mirror.
Select a garter belt that has the same waist and thigh measurements as the ones you have taken. If your measurements are half sizes, select the next size up.
Slip the garter belt over your head and situate it onto your waist. The straps should be centered over the center of your thigh on both the front and the back.
Open the clamps and slip the stockings between the clamps. Slide the top portion of the clamp over the stocking and into the back section of the clamp. Fasten the clamps on the front of the legs before fastening the back straps.
Don't take the measurement over regular clothing; measurements must be made under clothes to ensure the proper fit.
