How to Lose Weight With the Hibiscus Flower

The hibiscus flower is a tropical plant which comes in over 220 different varieties, according to information from Mountain Rose Herbs. The hibiscus flower can facilitate your weight loss efforts by acting as a mild diuretic and laxative, helping your body to flush out waste and excess fluids, resulting in a net weight loss. Hibiscus is also the main component of the weight loss product hydroxycitric acid, found in commercial weight loss products like Hydroxycut.

Instructions

    • 1

Grow a series of fresh hibiscus flowers (or simply purchase a mature flower). Pick several petals from the flower, laying them on a paper towel or napkin in the sun until they are dry. The drying process should take anywhere from several hours to several days depending on the climate and humidity level, so be patient. Once the flower petals are completely dry and brittle to the touch, they can be used.

    • 2

Grind the dried hibiscus flowers into a powder using your hands, the underside of a wooden spoon, or any other suitable instrument. Place the ground petals into a small jar (a glass salt shaker will work well for this purpose) to store them for later use. Once dried, the hibiscus petals will keep for some time, so don't think you need use all of your store in a hurry.

    • 3

Brew hibiscus tea by dumping a small amount of hibiscus powder into a coffee cup and pouring boiling water over it. Whip the mixture using a wire whisk until it becomes slightly frothy with a substantial number of bubbles at the surface. The petals will not dissolve entirely in the solution, but will remain on or near the bottom of the glass. Simply drink the homemade tea in the morning and at night to help buttress your dieting efforts.
