One roadblock you may face in connecting a computer to a TV is that many computers have limited options for video output.       Inspect the different video inputs on your TV and buy and adapter what will allow you to connect VGA to one of the inputs you have available.

      Connect the computer directly to the TV if your TV has a VGA input built in. Procure the proper adapter if your TV does not have a VGA input.

      Turn off the computer and TV and connect a VGA cable to the video output on the computer's video card.

      Connect the VGA adapter to the other end of the VGA cable. Now the end of the cord will have a different port available that will be compatible with your TV.

      Plug the other end into the video input on your TV. For instance, if your TV has HDMI, you will use a VGA to HDMI adapter and then use an HDMI cable between the adapter and your TV's HDMI input.
