How to Care for Bonded Hair Weaves

A bonded weave is a type of hair extension where synthetic hair is glued onto your existing hair to add length, color or texture. Like hair coloring, a hair weave is an easy and fun way to update your appearance and experiment with new styles. However, bonded hair weaves only last between one and two months, but if you take good care of them, you can enjoy your new look for a little longer. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Shampoo your hair once a week. Too much shampooing will loosen the weave, but too little shampooing might result in oily and tangled hair. Pour the shampoo into your hands, rub them together, and gently massage the shampoo throughout your scalp. Rinse clean and repeat. Do not rub vigorously.

    • 2

Brush your hair with a wide-toothed comb, starting at the bottom and working your way up, gently detangling. Hold the tracks securely down with one hand while you comb with the other. Apply light hair oil to your hair, concentrating on the ends, not the scalp.

    • 3

Wear a shower cap if you are swimming in a pool or ocean. The harsh water can weaken the glue.

    • 4

Wrap your head in a scarf at night to prevent your hair weave from rubbing against the pillow and falling out. Roll your hair into a loose bun on the base of your neck and tie the scarf over it. Do not force your hair to go against the direction it was glued.

    • 5

Carry a bottle of Liquid Gold Bond-A-Weave glue for touch-ups during the day, found at many beauty supply stores. Dab the glue onto your weave and press the loose track down for a few minutes until it bonds.

Tips & Warnings

  • The less water you put on your scalp, the longer your bonded weave will last.

  • Use the Liquid Gold glue sparingly, since it will damage your natural hair.
