How to Make a Paper Wheel for Photos
Teach your children the importance of honoring and knowing your family's history with a paper wheel that displays your heritage through photos. This paper wheel is a version of the traditional biography wheel, which children sometimes use to document a family's history or a book's plot through words. You will use basic art supplies from around your house for this project that will instill pride and feed curiosity in your children.

1
Print out a biography wheel template from an online source. Deer Park Elementary School in Fairfax, Va., offers a free template. You can print this template as your model or you can find other free, downloadable templates online. Type "biography wheel" into your search engine.

2
Cut out the template and trace it on a piece of colored construction paper of your choice, using a pencil or a marker. Repeat this step on another piece of colored construction paper of your choice. Cut out both circles.

Take one of the circles and fold it three times. To do this, first fold the circle in half by folding it down so that the top and bottom meet. Next, fold it in half again by folding it to the left or right. Finally, fold the paper one more time to the left or right. Unfold and flatten the circle. The folds make sections for you to paste your photos.

4
Cut out various photos and use a glue stick to paste them into individual sections of the pre-folded circle. The photo cuts do not have to be perfect, but try to keep them inside the boundaries of the folded sections.

5
Cut out one "wedge" of the second circle. This creates a "window" for the photo. The window does not have to be perfect, but try to make it about the same size as one section on the photo wheel. Place the circle with the cut-out window on top of the photo wheel, and secure with a brass fastener. Poke the fastener into the middle of both circles, turn over, and press down the fasteners arms. Now you can turn the top "wheel" to reveal individual family photos.
