Register your card online. Most card providers offer card registration on their websites. Some of these websites will allow you to set up a card reload, either one-time or recurring, through their website using an existing bank account.

2
Know your account balance. Keeping track of your account balance will ensure that you know when you need to add to your balance before it's all used. You can check your card's balance at your provider's website or by contacting the customer service number on the back of your card. Depending on your provider, you may also be able to view your account balance at ATMs.

Add money to your card through additional electronic methods. Add to your account balance through direct deposit. Reloadable cards can receive funds from direct deposit of your wages or tax refunds. You can also have funds deposited from child support, welfare or social security. Individual instructions for these methods vary, based on the fund source and the issuing financial institution. You can obtain this information from the product materials that were provided with the original card, or by calling the customer phone number on the back of your card.

Tips & Warnings
Even when your card is empty and you do not intend to reload the card, keep the card in case you need to return any of the products you have purchased with the card. Some retailers may require you to present the original card to credit back the purchase price directly to the card.
There are special types of transactions that can impact your available balance on your reloadable card. These include but are not limited to gas stations, hotels and restaurants. When using your card to pay for a rental car, be advised that you may additionally be required to provide a credit card.
Many of the rules and restrictions for reloadable cards depend on the financial institution issuing the card. Visa, Inc. issues and markets debit and credit cards, but it is not itself a financial institution. Review the materials provided with your card to determine the underlying financial institution and be sure to review all rules, restrictions and fee schedules.
Visa does offer protection for lost cards. Be sure to retain documentation of your card and balance and to review your card materials to ensure you follow the issuing institution's requirements for cards to be reissued after loss.
