How to Transform Long to Short Hair in Makeovers

Makeovers are a way to temporarily or permanently change the way you look. Changing the style and length of your hair can give you a completely different appearance. 1. Cut several inches off your long hair. Cutting long hair is a long-term way of achieving short locks. This method works best if your makeover is being done by a professional.

2. Wear a short wig over your naturally long hair. Wigs are available in many different styles, colors and textures. Wigs are often used in makeovers because they're a convenient way to temporarily take your hair from long to short. Wigs are also less time consuming than many other makeover hairstyles. For added appeal, try a wig that's a shade or two lighter or darker than your natural hair.

3. Braid your natural hair into cornrows and sew in human hair weave extensions. Human hair weave extensions can be purchased in a variety of different colors and lengths. Additionally, human hair extensions can be cut, curled and dyed just like natural hair. Try to buy weave extensions that are 8 to 12 inches long to create a short hairstyle.

4. Use your naturally long hair to "fake" a popular short hairstyle by following the steps listed below.

1. Wash and condition your hair with your favorite shampoo and conditioner.

2. Detangle your hair and dry it with a blow dryer.

3. Apply your favorite hair moisturizer or serum.

4. Split your hair in half from about ear to ear.

6. With the remaining hair, take sections 2 inches wide and roll them tightly on your fingers.

7. Secure each section of hair to your scalp with bobby pins.

8. Let down the top half of your hair and use bobby pins to secure it in place beneath the bottom section.

9. Spray your hair with hairspray or holding spray to keep everything in place.
