How to Avoid the Junk Mail Folder
People have come to rely on e-mail as a primary method of communication. The problem, however, is that due to junk mail, e-mail doesn't have the reliability of being noticed compared to more conventional methods of communication. Whether you are just sending e-mail to friends or you are sending important company e-mails, it's critical to avoid the junk folder to get your messages in front of the people you are trying to contact.

1
Be careful how you e-mail people. Don't send an e-mail to a hundred people who don't really care about what you're writing and don't want to receive your e-mails. When you do send to a lot of recipients, hide their addresses by placing them in the BCC field or by using a list.

2
Avoid sending spam. You are going to end up in the junk folder if you purposefully send spam. Read over your e-mails before you send them and make sure there is useful information that people want to receive and have told you that they want.

3
Read your e-mail and make sure it doesn't look like spam. Spam filters mark e-mail to be sent to the junk folder. Don't use phrases that are common to spam such as "Act now" and "Make lots of money."
-
4
Be professional. If you are sending an e-mail with HTML, don't copy the HTML from a Word document. Word adds unnecessary code, which alerts spam filters. Avoid sending e-mails that are mostly images and have little text.
-
5
Make it known exactly what you are sending. Make the subject line specific and avoid catch phrases. Don't use all capital letters or a lot of exclamation points.
-
6
Use e-mail programs to read your stats. If you are sending professional e-mails for marketing purposes you will want to know who is opening your e-mail, who isn't and why. Programs like Constant Contact and MailChimp can give you specific details.
