How to Make an All Natural Bird Seed Wreath
Many people enjoy hanging bird feeders in an attempt to bring a variety of beautiful wild birds into their yard. Birdseed wreaths are all-natural bird feeders that are 100 percent edible and can be made at home. What's more, these feeders are inexpensive and very simple to make. Using wild birdseed, water and gelatin, you can create your own birdseed wreath.
Things You'll Need
- 8 tbsp. cold water
- 1 package Knox brand unflavored gelatin, 1-oz. size
- 1 1/2 cups water, boiling
- 8 cups birdseed
- Bundt pan
- Nonstick cooking spray
- 1 1/2 yards twine
Instructions
-
-
1
Put the cold water in a large bowl and pour the package of unflavored gelatin into it.
-
2
Boil the 1 1/2 cups water, pour it into the gelatin and mix until the gelatin is completely dissolved.
-
-
3
Pour the birdseed into the hot water and gelatin, and mix thoroughly until all the seed is coated with the water and gelatin mixture. Allow the mixture to set for several minutes so that the seeds can absorb the gelatin.
-
4
Spray a light coat of nonstick cooking spray into the bundt pan. Spoon the birdseed mixture into the bundt pan so that it is distributed equally.
-
5
Press the birdseed mixture into the pan firmly with your hands until it is well compacted. Place the bundt pan into your refrigerator and allow to set for two to three hours.
-
6
Remove the bundt pan from the refrigerator and set it on a countertop. Allow the pan to set overnight so that the gelatin mixture can fully dry, sealing the birdseed together.
-
7
Flip the bundt pan upside down so that the birdseed is facing the countertop. Firmly tap the back of the pan with your hand several times until the wreath comes out.
-
8
Wrap the twine around the top of the wreath three times to create a firm bond. Tie the wreath to a tree branch.

These are great..!!! I bought one at Farm & Fleet for a LOT more than it would cost to make. The birds love it too. Can see lots of variations to be made with different types of seeds and other things to decorate and nibble through the whole wreath!
