How to Back Up a Phone Book in a Blackberry Device
Backing up your BlackBerry phone book is a good precaution in case you lose your device or if your BlackBerry suffers a system crash due to an unforeseen hardware problem. Also, backing up your phone book is an easy way to download your contacts if you purchase a new BlackBerry. There are many software programs available for backing up BlackBerry data, but Blackberry's own device manager performs these same functions and it's free. The BlackBerry Desktop Manager works on PCs and on Macs.

Tips & Warnings
The phone book back-up file can be accessed by the manager if you need to replace the phone book on your BlackBerry or add them to a new BlackBerry by choosing the "Restore" option in the manager's main menu.
It's a good idea to set up your BlackBerry Desktop Manager to automatically back up your phone book every time you connect the device to your computer. That way, all your newly added phone numbers will be synced with the originally saved numbers. You can do this by going into "Device Options" and checking "Automatically Sync."
