How to Register on a Mailing List
Companies purchase mailing lists of consumers who have purchased products and services like the ones they sell. In turn, they use these lists when mailing out catalogs and direct mail pieces to people like you. Once they accumulate their own customer lists, they sell those names to mailing list vendors as an extra source of income. If you want to get your name registered on a mailing list, here are some key steps on how to accomplish it.

1
Locate catalogs of companies that sell products or services in which you are interested. Check the Sunday paper or save direct mailings that arrive in your mailbox. Look inside the catalog or direct mail and locate the name and address of the distributing company. If a phone number is listed, call and tell them you want to be added to their list. If only an address is listed, write a short letter that contains the key sentence: "Add me to your mailing list."

2
Browse the Internet to locate businesses that sell products and services that you like to purchase. Procure their contact address. If they mail out catalogs, tell them to add your name to their list. Send them an e-mail if there is no phone number listed.

Tips & Warnings
Consider typing your letter to some of the bigger companies such as the Direct Marketing Association. They process tens of thousands of names daily. A neatly typed letter is more likely to be placed in their system more accurately. Also, purchase items from your favorite distributors periodically so that you will remain an active member of their distribution list.
Refrain from registering with too many lists as you will be inundated with a plethora of mail. Register to receive only the products and services in which you are interested.
