How to Care for Autumn Joy Sedum Plants
Autumn Joy Sedum is a variety of sedum that is also known as stonecrop. It is a succulent perennial that is hardy in zones 3 to 10, making it available for almost any garden. Autumn Joy is so named because of its fall blooming habit, often blooming after other perennials are already dormant. Growing from thick stems with rounded, succulent leaves, Autumn Joy Sedum has vibrant pink broccoli-shaped flower clusters that turn a rich copper in the autumn. Sedums prefer full sun to partial shade and grow from 1 to 3 feet in height and width. Perfectly at home in the rock garden setting or the cottage garden, sedums attract tons of bees and butterflies when in bloom in summer through fall. Does this Spark an idea?
Instructions

1
Choose a site in fall or spring that has full sun or partial shade and fertile, well-drained soil. Dig a hole to accommodate the sedum, place it in the hole, spreading the roots, and backfill with soil. Compact the soil to remove any air pockets.
-
2
Water thoroughly. Sedums like it moist but will tolerate drier conditions.
-
-
3
Space plants 1 1/2 to 2 feet apart if you're planting them in groups.
-
4
Fertilize the sedum in the spring with your choice of all-purpose fertilizer.
-
5
Divide sedum plants in the spring if you wish to increase your plants for fall blooming. Dig up a sedum plant and carefully separate it into two or more sections. Replant the sections in another location, following the instructions as in steps 1 through 3.
-
6
Deadhead any spent flowers by clipping them off the stems. Sedum flowers may also be cut for floral arrangements or cut and dried for wreaths and other decor.
