How to Mix Antique Windsor Chairs With New Furniture

If traditional is to formal, and contemporary to sleek, then maybe you are eclectic. An ecelectic room is one that incorporates both traditional and contemporary design elements into the same room to create a softer, less formal feel. Don't be afraid to place Grandma's cedar chest at the foot of your sleek, metal bed. That old rocker from Aunt Susie will be a focal point in the dining room. If you have very modern and contemporary spaces, adding in antiques, like windsor chairs will be more difficult and will require the addition of other items to bridge the gap. In an entire metal and glass room, one wood item will seem out of place. Match up elements like leg styles and metal colors and incorporate velvet drapery and tapestry pillows for traditional facets to any room.

Instructions

1. In the living room, create a seating arrangement with two windsor chairs. Place a side table between them that matches the rest of the new furniture. Use a more traditional rug to anchor the arrangement as well as bridge the new and old pieces.

2. In the bedroom, place the chairs on either side of a dresser or bed. Drape a throw or blanket accross the back. To add a little traditional to the bed, place a quilt at the edge of the bed.

3. Use the windosor chairs at the heads of the table in the dining room. In an ecelectic dining room, all the chairs can be different, so don't be afraid to mix styles. If the table is an extremly modern piece, use a table cloth to cover it and place chairs all around.
