How to Store Wigs on Shelves
People wear wigs for a variety of reasons. For some, they are a necessity because of hair loss or perceived hair inadequacies. For others, wigs enhance their sense of style and fashion. There are even some women who wear wigs for religious reasons--Orthodox Jewish women wear wigs so that their natural hair is not publicly visible. Whatever the reasons are for wearing a wig, buying a wig is a considerable investment. The wig must be properly stored to allow it to maintain its shape and quality. Does this Spark an idea?

1
Keep the wig stored on a wig stand when it's not in use. A Styrofoam "head" is inexpensive and can be set up on a shelf to hold up the wig. Such "heads" may be found in wig shops. An empty spray can will do in a pinch. The holder should be high enough so that the wig's hair isn't resting on the shelf--it should hang down.

2
Comb out the wig before placing it in its storage spot on the shelf. Use a wide-toothed comb to comb out the wig. If the wig is stored on the shelf immediately after use without combing it first, it will be more difficult to comb out in the future.

3
Place the shelf where the wig is stored far away from any heat-producing sources such as lamps and ovens. Heat will cause the wig to become frizzy. Also the shelf should not be in a place where there is direct sunlight. Excessive exposure to UV rays can damage the hair's texture.

4
Cover the wig with a hair net while it's on the shelf to keep it from blowing in a breeze or wind. Any slight breeze may tangle the hair.
-
5
Cover the wig with a scarf while it's on the shelf to keep off any dirt or dust. If a plastic bag is used to cover the wig, be sure to turn the wig inside out first so that the wig's hair doesn't come in contact with the plastic. Contact between a wig and plastic will cause the hair to mat. Leave the hair net on, whether covering the hair with a scarf or a bag.
