Instructions

    • 1

Lay out newspaper on a flat surface. This will make cleaning up easier.

    • 2

Remove the backing from the shadow glass box. Place the backing on the newspaper with the inside of the box facing toward you.

    • 3

Use a paintbrush to spread glue over the cardboard backing. Completely cover the backing.

    • 4

Pour the sand over the wet glue. You can use sand you brought home from the beach, or buy craft sand from the store. Pick the cardboard backing up and slide the sand around to ensure that it covers all the glue.

    • 5

Allow the glue to dry for 2 to 3 hours.

    • 6

Clean the seashells with gentle soap and water, and dry. To add luster and shine, rub baby oil over your dry shells.

    • 7

Glue the seashells onto the sand-covered backing. Place them sporadically or create a pattern. Use as many seashells as you like.

    • 8

Allow the glue to dry completely to ensure that the seashells will stay intact.

    • 9

Replace the back of the shadow box. Decorate the outside of the shadow box by gluing additional seashells to the frame.

    • 10

Display the shadow glass box on your wall.

Tips & Warnings

  • Mix glitter with the sand to add an intense sparkle to your shadow box.

  • Leave room to add pictures to your seashell and sand glass shadow box. Glue the pictures on a piece of cardboard cut out to the size of each picture to create a three-dimensional effect.
