How to Clean Bathroom Curtains
Your bathroom curtains are exposed to warmth and moisture. This makes them vulnerable to mildew growth, which leads to odor and discoloration if left untreated. Keep your bathroom curtains clean and free of odor by washing them once a week. Fabric used for bathroom curtains is usually machine washable, which makes this job much simpler. In less than a couple of hours, your curtains will be clean and fresh again. Does this Spark an idea?

1
Take the curtains down for cleaning. Check them over for stains from mildew or soap scum. Treat mildew stains with a commercial stain pre-treating spray. If your curtains are colored, make sure the stain spray is safe for colored fabrics---if not, use detergent with a color-safe bleach alternative.
-
2
Run the curtains through one short, warm water wash cycle, using the amount of detergent recommended on the container.

3
Add 1/2 cup of baking soda and a cap of regular detergent to the wash when the first cycle has completed. Baking soda will help deodorize the curtains. Let the curtains go through another warm water wash cycle.

Remove the curtains from the washing machine. If the curtains are fabric, you may be able to dry them in the dryer; check for a label with instructions. If you are unsure if they are dryer-safe, or if the curtains are vinyl, hang them to dry (indoors or out).

Tips & Warnings
Open your bathroom window, if possible, after taking a shower or bath. The ventilation will help dry the bathroom curtains more quickly, preventing mildew.
Curtains that seem delicate---such as lace---should be hand-washed in the tub or sink. Use detergent and baking soda to clean them. Rinse them thoroughly and hang them to dry.
