How to Clean a Cement Bird Bath
Cleaning out a bird bath is the best way to keep bacteria and algae from growing inside it. A dirty bird bath is less likely to be used and unhealthy for the birds that do use it. Things You'll Need
- Spray bottle
- Bleach
- Water
- Garden disinfectant
- Hose
- Spray nozzle
- Rubber dish gloves
- Plastic scrub brush

Mix 1 part bleach with 4 parts water and put the mixture of bleach and water into a spray bottle. Put on the rubber dish gloves before continuing.

Empty the water from your cement bird bath into your yard and put a garden disinfectant soap in the bowl of the bird bath.

Spray the cement bird bath with the hose and spray nozzle. Hose the bird bath thoroughly to dislodge any algae growth or bird feces that may have settled on the bottom of the bath.

Squirt several sprays of the water and bleach mixture into the bottom and sides of the cement bird bath.

Scrub the bird bath with the plastic scrub brush to thoroughly clean it and kill any remaining algae and bacteria that may be on the inside and sides.

Spray the bird bath with the hose to remove the bleach and water mixture. Rinse off the pedestal of the bird bath as well.

Fill the bird bath with fresh water.
