How to Roll Up Power Cords

Power cords are one of the staples of life. Unfortunately, they are one of the less tidy staples. From computer cords to extension cords, keeping them organized is a challenge, but one that can be mastered with a simple technique. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

  1. Rolling Long Power Cords

    • 1

Hold onto either end of the extension cord with either hand. Bend that arm into an "L" with your hand pointing up.

    • 2

Using the other hand, wrap the extension cord around your arm, running it between the index finger and thumb of the hand holding the end of the cord.

    • 3

Loop the cord under the elbow of the same arm and back up between the thumb and index finger. Try not to get it too tight. This should form a long, narrow "O" with the cord.

    • 4

      Repeat as necessary.

    • 5

On the last trip around your arm spiral the loose end of the cord around one side of the bunched "O" of the cord, wrapping it all together. Plug the male end into the female end, which will hold the cord in a loop.

Tips & Warnings

  • Wrap shorter, smaller cords around your hand to organize them. Using the same principle as the longer cords, hold one end in your hand and wrap the rest of the cord around it with the other hand. When you are finished use at least two twist ties, zip ties or pieces of string to wrap around each side of the cord, making sure to contain both ends. This will hold the loop open and keep it from getting tangled.
