How to Transfer Videos From a Computer to an iPod

Certain videos saved on your computer that open in iTunes and QuickTime Player are also viewable on a video iPod. As with transferring audio files to an iPod, you must first add the video to the iTunes library on your computer. Once you've added the video to the iTunes folder on your computer, you need to sync your video iPod to the iTunes software and use iTunes to add the video to the iPod.

Instructions

    • 1

      Open iTunes.

    • 2

Click "File." Choose "Add File to Library" to open the window that will allow you to add videos to iTunes.

    • 3

Find and click the video you want to transfer to the iPod. Select "Open" after you've clicked the right video to add the video to iTunes.

    • 4

Plug the iPod into any usable USB port on the computer. Wait until you see the name of the plugged-in iPod listed under "Devices" in the left-hand panel in iTunes.

    • 5

Click the "Movies" link in the left-hand panel of iTunes. You will see all of the videos in iTunes, including the one you added in step 3, listed.

    • 6

Highlight the video you want to transfer to the iPod.

    • 7

Drag the video over to the name of the iPod (underneath "Devices") to add the video to the iPod.

Tips & Warnings

  • Not all videos will play on iPods. MPEG-4 files, MOV files, MP4, M4V files and QuickTime movies and videos downloaded from iTunes will play on your video iPod.

  • The instructions in this piece pertain to iTunes 9.
