How to Make a Fruit & Flower Centerpiece

Making a fruit and flower centerpiece is a smart way to control decoration costs and add a unique touch to common centerpiece styles. As long as any real flowers are not covered with pesticides, your guests will even be able to pluck the fruit right out of the centerpiece and eat it. To create this lemon and strawberry flower centerpiece, you're going to need a heavy plant pot at least 6-inches wide and 6-inches tall.

  • Craft glue
  • Yellow decorative stones, 1/4-inch

Instructions

    • 1

Place the heavy and sturdy plant pot somewhere with ventilation so you can spray paint. Lightly cover the plant pot, inside and out, with the strawberry red craft spray paint. Let dry. Spray with a second coat and let dry.

    • 2

Place the plant pot for the fruit and flower centerpiece on a flat surface. Use the knife to cut a 3-inch thick piece of Styrofoam that fits in the bottom of the pot. Coat the bottom of the pot with craft glue and push Styrofoam shape flat against the pot bottom. Fill the plant pot about 2/3 full with yellow decorative stones. Let dry.

    • 3

Place the bottom tip of the medium lemon against the top of a skewer. Gently push the skewer about halfway into the lemon. Push the bottom of the skewer into the foam so that the lemon shoots straight up from the middle of the fruit and flower centerpiece. The top tip of the medium lemon should remain the tallest point in the overall centerpiece arrangement.

    • 4

Push a skewer into the bottom of a small lemon. Push the bottom of the skewer into the left side of the Styrofoam at a slight angle so that the lemon tilts past the left side of the plant pot. Repeat process to place a small lemon on the right side of the plant pot.

    • 5

Push a few bunches of faux lemongrass filler into the foam to create a generally rounded shape for the fruit and flower centerpiece. Add the faux daisies around the arrangement, cutting the stems so that the flowers are slightly shorter than the medium lemon. Keep adding daisies until you have what appears to be a light, generally rounded arrangement with three lemons peaking out.

    • 6

Take a fresh strawberry and turn it upside down, so that the leaves are on the bottom. Push a wooden skewer into the leaves and about halfway into the strawberry. Push bottom of skewer into Styrofoam. Keep adding strawberries of varying heights until you fill all the small gaps in the fruit and flower centerpiece.

Tips & Warnings

  • It's important to look for thicker skewers to create the fruit and flower centerpiece. A medium lemon can be rather heavy and a thin skewer may simply snap under the weight.
