How to Download Songs Onto Your iPod on BearShare

BearShare was originally a peer-to-peer file-sharing application based on the gnutella network. It has since reincarnated itself as a subscription-based music player using the protected Windows Media format. BearShare does still offer free downloads shared between peers, but they must be verified to avoid any copyright infringement. BearShare includes native iPod support, which has made transferring music to your iPod for listening on the go even easier.

Instructions

  1. Unlicensed Content

    • 1

Download, install and launch BearShare. Search for a song or an artist of your choice.

    • 2

Double-click a file within the search results to being downloading. If you do not have a subscription, you will be limited to files designated as free.

    • 3

Connect your iPod to your computer. BearShare will detect the connected iPod and present you with some options on how you want the application to interact with your iPod.

    • 4

Select "I will add and remove tracks manually" and select "OK."

    • 5

Drag and drop unlicensed p2p content (green CD icon) from your BearShare library to your iPod in BearShare's sidebar to transfer downloaded songs to your device.

    Premium Content

    • 6

Create a playlist of your premium media content (gold CD icon) from your BearShare library. Because of the protection on the premium downloads available with a subscription, they are unable to play on an iPod and downloading the songs to your iPod is slightly trickier than the unlicensed content.

    • 7

Select the "Burn" icon. This will bring up the "Burn CD" options. Drag the files from the playlist you just created into the Burn windowpane.

    • 8

Insert a blank CD into your computer and select "Start" to begin burning the CD.

    • 9

Open iTunes when the CD finishes writing.

    • 10

Select the CD from iTunes sidebar and select "Import." This will rip the CD contents into your iTunes library in an iPod-compatible format.

    • 11

Connect your iPod and sync your new music with the device.
