Things You'll Need
- Wood block, 1 inch think
- Plank, 2 inches by 2 inches by 12-plus inches
- Saw
- Stain or paint
- Paintbrush
- Ruler
- Pencil
- Wood screws
- Hooks
- Wood glue

Instructions
-
-
1
Stain the wood before assembling, if you want a stained mug tree. Paint the wood after building the mug tree.
-
2
Sand the 1-inch wood block, using the sandpaper. Smooth out any rough edges or corners on the block. The block should make a square base of at least 4 or 5 inches by 4 or 5 inches to adequately support your mugs.
-
-
3
Measure the block from corner to corner diagonally. Mark the center of your block with a pencil to indicate where you will place the center block pole of your mug tree.
-
4
Cut the 2-inch-by-2-inch plank with the saw so that you have a 12-inch long, four-sided pole. Sand the edges. Test the pole to see if it will stand up by placing it on a flat surface.
-
5
Place a small amount of wood glue in the center of the bottom of the pole. Avoid placing glue near the edges of the pole as it will ooze out and discolor your base.
-
6
Put the pole on the pencil mark you made on the base. Hold the pole firmly in place for 10 to 15 seconds. Allow the glue to dry for an hour.
-
7
Screw a 2-inch wood screw through the bottom of the base into the pole to hold it more firmly. Ensure that the head of the screw is flush with the bottom of the block.
-
8
Paint the block to match your kitchen decor or add color or patterns to your existing room design. If you decide to paint the mug tree stand, allow it to dry overnight.
-
9
Attach hooks to the center pole in alternating patterns. Screw four hooks into each side of the coffee mug tree, spacing them far enough apart so that your mugs hang freely without overlapping.
