How to Glue Glass Bottles

Glass can be a tricky item to use. You might have a project that requires you to attach something to glass. This can be difficult because you have to find the right substance to use on glass; one that won't run or disappear over time. There is glue that is specifically designed for glass, and you can use it to attach anything to your favorite glass item. Glue can also be suitable to repair glass that has been broken. With careful application, the broken glass can be good as new. You can glue most things, from glass blocks, glass panels, and glass bottles. Once you find the right glue, you can use it for crafts or to make any repairs you might need.

Instructions

  1. Gluing Glass Bottles

    • 1

Place paper bags on your work area (table or kitchen top). Placing paper bags will protect your surfaces from the glue. Put on gloves when handling glue, to prevent any damage to your hands.

    • 2

Place the glass bottle on the paper bags. Make sure it is away from the edge, so it doesn't fall and injure you or someone else.

    • 3

Apply the glass glue to the broken piece of glass, along the edges and apply the glue to the bottle itself. Apply a small amount. Use a bottle of glue that has a spout attached, this will make application easier and mess-free. There are many glass glue products available that are specially formulated to adhere to the glass instantly, so make sure you use a glue that is permanent and specifically made for glass to glass application. Please see the Resource section for examples of glass glues.

    • 4

Insert the broken piece of glass back onto the glass bottle. Hold it together for 2 to 3 minutes. Holding it together for a couple of minutes will ensure that the glue adheres and holds the glass in place.

    • 5

Let the glass bottle sit on the paper bag. Allow the glue to dry for at least 24 hours. For the certain glass glues, you will need an ultra violet light for it to dry completely. The light can be purchased with the glue.
