How to Get Album Art on a Mac

All Macintosh computers come preinstalled with iTunes for managing digital music stored on your computer. In addition to managing and playing music, iTunes allows you to get additional music by purchasing tracks online from the iTunes Store or importing CDs from your own collection. Music purchased from the iTunes Store will automatically include the album cover art when downloaded. For imported music, it is possible to configure iTunes to search for album art if you have an iTunes Store account.

Instructions

1. Launch iTunes by clicking the "iTunes" icon in the dock. The dock is the panel of applications and folders located at the bottom of the computer screen. If you are not already signed into your iTunes Store account, sign in by clicking "Sign In" from the iTunes Store window.

2. Open the iTunes preference pane by selecting "Preferences" from the iTunes menu bar. Click on the "Store" tab and click the check box for "Automatically download missing album artwork". At the pop-up window, click "Enable Automatic Downloading". This process will enable iTunes to look for album cover art for new music being imported into your iTunes library. Click "OK" to close the iTunes preference pane.

3. Find missing album art for music already in your iTunes library. Click "Music" under Library in the iTunes application window. Right click on the song you want to find album art for and select "Get Album Artwork". At the pop-up window, click "Get Album Artwork," and iTunes will automatically locate the artwork for the song if it is available.

Tips & Warnings

• iTunes can only find album cover art for music available in the iTunes Store. For music not available in the store, visit the website of the artist to find the album art.

• If iTunes cannot find cover art for music you know is available in the music store, check the song information to make sure it matches the information displayed in iTunes.

• Accounts with the iTunes Store are free but require a credit card when signing up.
