How to Make Sweet Wing Sauce

Chicken wings with sweet sauce is a delicious, easy-to-make dish that does not require expensive ingredients. Things You'll Need

  • 6 lbs. chicken wings
  • Foil
  • 10-inch-by-12-inch baking pan
  • Blender
  • 3 tbsp. tamari (found in the Asian food section of most grocery stores)
  • ¾ cup brown sugar
  • ¼ cup white sugar
  • 2 tbsp. dark or amber agave nectar (found in the sweetener section of most grocery stores)
  • 1/8 tsp. hot sauce (optional, or to taste)
  • 5 cloves peeled fresh garlic, minced
  • 1 tsp. dried ginger, or 1-inch fresh ginger, minced
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

      Place chicken wings in foil-lined pan.

      In blender, mix tamari, brown sugar, white sugar, agave nectar, hot sauce (if using), garlic, ginger, salt and pepper. Blend until well combined.

      Pour mixture over chicken wings and cover with more foil.

      Put pan of wings in refrigerator to marinate one hour.

      Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.

      Place pan of wings in oven and bake for 40 minutes. Use spatula to turn wings over after 20 minutes of cooking.

      Wings should be crispy and golden brown. Cook longer if necessary.

Tips & Warnings

  • You can substitute soy sauce for tamari.

  • You can substitute molasses for dark agave nectar.

  • You'll know the chicken is ready when the chicken juices run clear. Prick with a fork to check. Do not undercook poultry.
