How to Get Dried Silly Putty Off a Wall

Save

Silly putty is suddenly not so silly when it’s stuck on a surface you don’t want it on. Young children usually don’t grasp the concept of the mess they’ve made and certainly won’t volunteer to clean it up so it’s up to you. When silly putty gets onto your walls and dries, the concern is how to remove it without taking the paint up with it. Though a seemingly perplexing problem, it’s actually a lot easier than might assume.

Dampen a clean cloth with olive or vegetable oil, whichever you have handy.

Wipe the dried putty with the cloth and cover it thoroughly.

Allow the putty to soak in the oil for five to ten minutes. Keep wiping it with the cloth to keep it moist.

Wipe away the putty with a clean cloth. If it’s moist enough it will slide right off. If you meet any resistance, apply more oil and let it soak for a few more minutes before attempting to remove it again.

Tips & Warnings

  • Avoid the use of harsh chemicals and abrasives as this may damage the paint on your wall.
