How to Open a Kenmore Washer

Kenmore, manufactured by Whirlpool, is a well-known appliance brand sold by Sears. Whirlpool manufactures washing machines, dryers, refrigerators and many household appliances in the Kenmore brand. The tedious chore of washing clothes manually has been revolutionized by the washing machine, with the washing machine automatically cycling the clothes, taking about twenty minutes. Should you need to remove the cabinet on your washing machine for troubleshooting or repairs, there is no need to call a repairman.

• Putty knife

Instructions

1. Unplug thecord to the washing machine from the electrical outlet. Move the unit out from the wall.

2. Remove the screws on the front control panel. On the end caps of the control panel, there will be one screw located on both the right and left side near the bottom of the panel, unscrew the screws and set them to the side or place in your pocket. Pull the control panel up while pulling it forward. The control panel is on hinges, lift it back and over the top of the washing machine, resting on its hinges.

3. Disconnect the wire harness. With the control panel off, you will see wires that run from the control panel and attach to the top of the washing machine unit. Pull the wire harness from where it attaches at the base of the front of the washing machine unit.

4. Using a putty knife,release the spring clips from the unit. On each side of the washer there will be a spring clip. Insert the putty knife to pry the spring clip toward the back of the machine to release it. Once you have each of the clips loose, move the clip out of the hole in the rear pan.

5. Open the lid to the washing machine and hold it open with your hand. With your other hand pull the unit towards you by grabbing the unit in the washing machine opening, and tilting the cabinet towards you. .This will depress the rear locking tabs. Press against the front of the unit and lift the front of the unit pusing it away from its base. This will release the unit from the front locking tabs and the unit will be completely opened.
