How to Heal Fractures With Magnets

Magnet therapy is the use of static magnets to promote circulation and healing within the body. Bone fractures may heal faster with the use of magnets, although there is no scientific proof to show magnets benefit the user. Despite this, many people believe magnets help in healing.

    Things You'll Need

    • Static magnets
    • Adhesive tape
      • 1

Purchase static magnets at your local drugstore or through a reputable online company. Static magnets are measured in strengths, from 450 to 10,000 Gauss.

      • 2

Place magnets on the site of the fracture. If you are wearing a cast, place the magnet on your skin closest to the fractured area.

      • 3

Tape the magnet onto the skin with the adhesive tape. Make sure the magnet is secured tightly to the skin. You may need to tape the magnet several times to ensure it will not fall off.

      • 4

Leave the magnet in place for several days. If you do not feel improvement in pain, move the magnet several inches and re-tape. Magnets give off pulsed electromagnetic fields that may improve healing times when bones are fractured.

    Tips & Warnings

    • Do not use magnetic therapy if you are pregnant, have a bleeding disorder, have a history of epilepsy or have a pacemaker. Do not use if you have any metal implants (the magnets may dislodge them).

    • Discontinue use if you feel nauseous or dizzy after applying the magnets. Talk to your doctor about any concerns you have about using magnetic therapy.
