How to Add Wheel Weights to a Garden Tractor
Increased traction is important to avoid getting your tractor stuck in the dirt. There are several options to increase traction on your tractor. One expensive option is to improve the quality of tire on your tractor. Another, less expensive, option is to add wheel weights to the vehicle. Wheel weights will act to increase the downward force being exerted on the ground from the tractor, increasing the overall coefficient of friction and making the vehicle less likely to slip or slide.

1
Clean the rims of your tractor thoroughly prior to adding on commercial wheel weights. Cleaning out all dirt and grime from the inside of the wheelbase will prevent rust from developing after your seal the area in with the addition of commercial wheel weights. Take your time, cleaning out as much of the accumulated dirt as possible, using a commercial wheel cleaning product (such as Armor-All) if desired to achieve optimal results.

2
Affix the commercial wheel weights to the rims of your tractor wheels, securing them into place with the attached bolts. Ensure that each wheel weight is on securely, but do not overtighten or strip the bolts in the process, lest you have difficulty removing them for cleaning or once they are no longer required. A good rule of thumb is to tighten the bolt around a quarter turn past the point of moderate resistance, but no further.

Check the bolts on the wheel weights once every month or so to ensure that they are still on securely. You might want to remove the weights at this time to clean the wheels, maintaining the resale value of your tractor while ensuring that you have sufficient traction to achieve the task at hand.
