How to Bead Baseball Caps
You can bead any type of design onto baseball caps with the help of a stencil. Create special hats with the name of a group or with inspirational words beaded across the bill or the hat's body. You can find blank baseball caps from online retailers and some local discount stores. Look for beading supplies and stencil letters at your local craft store. With a little effort, you can transform a plain baseball cap into a work of art.

1
Select the stencils and the beads for your baseball cap design. Smaller beads such as 4mm, seed beads and delicas work well for this project. Larger beads can be too heavy and may tend to pull away from the fabric on the cap.
-
2
Situate the stencil letters or image on top of the baseball cap. Trace the outline with chalk.

3
Thread a beading needle with two feet of waxed beading thread. Leave a foot-long tail from the needle; knot the longest end of the thread.
-
4
Insert the needle through the hat from the inside out over one part of the chalk line. Pull the thread to the knot. Pick up your choice of bead and insert your needle back down into the hat immediately beside the bead. Work the needle back up through the same bead again. This will ensure that the end of the thread does not work its way out of the cap fabric. Beading thread is very fine a knot is not always sufficient.
-
5
Continue following the chalk outline, picking up one 4mm bead at a time. If you choose to use seed beads, you can pick up five at a time to cover a straight line in your design. If you pick up more than one seed bead, reinsert your needle back through and secure every second or third bead with a stitch. This technique is called couching.

6
Cover the chalk outlines with beads. If you run out of thread, add more by knotting the ends together beneath the cap. When you finish beading the baseball cap, reinsert the needle through the last bead several times in lieu of tying a knot.
-
7
Remove any visible chalk with water on a cotton swab.
