How to Restart an Automatic Icemaker

Automatic icemakers don't need much tinkering with. Sometimes, after some maintenance, moving or cleaning, you may need to re-start the icemaker. The most important thing to remember when re-starting them is that they need to be plumbed to a water supply, so if you've just moved, check that the icemaker has been connected.

Instructions

1. Plug the freezer into the household power and let the freezer cool down. It could take a day for it to get to a suitable temperature for making ice, so be patient.

2. Make sure there is a water hose connected to the ice maker and the water supply is on. It will be fatter than the power cable. It may be brass or clear polythene tubing. If there's a valve at the wall, make sure it's on.

3. Open the door of the freezer section and turn the switch on the side of the icemaker to the "on" position. It can be marked as a "I" icon.

4. Place the feeder arm in the down, or "on" position. The feeder arm is a thin rod that lays alongside the ice maker. Check that nothing obstructs the feeder arm.

5. Wait for the icemaker to make a batch of ice. Discard the first batch. That'll clean out the water line. Slide the bucket straight out.

6. Replace the ice container and allow the icemaker to make a second batch.
