1
Group like items together. Rather than spreading out your collection of figurines or memorabilia across multiple shelves or several locations throughout your home, group the items together on one shelf of your bookcase. They will make more of an impact when displayed together. If you do choose to display books, group them together by the color of the binding of the book.

2
Display larger items on your bookcase. Items displayed on a bookcase should be visible from across the room. If the items are very small, they will disappear into the expanse of the bookcase and be overlooked. Make items on your bookcase pop and stand out by displaying larger items with bold colors.

3
Use odd numbers when displaying objects. Typically odd numbers of objects make a more interesting arrangement than even numbers. Vary the height of the accessories on the bookcase. If the shelves of the bookcase can be moved, do not space them perfectly apart. It will be more pleasing to the eye if the spacing between the shelves is varied depending on the display height of the pieces on the shelf.

4
Create depth on the bookcase by using the depth of the available shelf space. By placing taller items towards the back of the shelf and smaller items towards the front, the arrangement will be more appealing. Use books to add height to shorter items and place towards the back of the shelf. Instead of hanging small art prints on the wall, prop them in the back of the bookcase for a touch of color.

5
Decorate the top of the bookcase with items that will not fit within the shelves of the bookcase. This can be a great place for a tall plant or bigger piece of art. It will draw the eye up creating more of a feeling of height in the room.

6
Experiment with different arrangements on the bookcase. Items on a bookcase can easily be rearranged, added and taken away. Try moving pieces around until you achieve just the right look for the space. Rotating items through different bookcase or shelving locations in the home can also keep displays fresh.
