How to Do Page 2 of a Resume

While some employers prefer succinct, one-page resumes that provide a general outline of your credentials and experience, other companies may require a more in-depth resume. If you have fewer than 10 years of work experience, avoid using a second page on your resume. If you are an executive-level professional, have extensive leadership experience or are changing careers and need to provide extra information to show that you are qualified for the job, a two or more page resume may be appropriate.

Instructions

    • 1

Use page numbers on either the header or footer of your second resume page so that your prospective employer will review your resume in the proper order. It is not necessary to number the first page of your resume, only subsequent pages.

    • 2

List your name and contact information on the top of page two. Print page two of your resume on your letterhead, or create a header that includes your name, phone number, mailing address or email address. This will ensure that your second page stays with your application packet should your resume sheets get separated.

    • 3

Put your information in order of importance. Include your career and educational highlights on the first page of your resume, saving page two for secondary information not directly related to your formal qualifications for the job.

    • 4

Include extra, relevant details. If your resume does not require two full pages, fill up some of the blank space on your second page by adding details about your professional accomplishments, specialized skills and volunteer experience.

Tips & Warnings

  • Do not pad your resume or use wordy sentences to fill the entirety of the second page. White space is preferable to irrelevant information.

  • Do not staple your resume pages together. The sheets may stick together after the staple is removed, causing page two to be overlooked.

  • Do not include references on your resume. Instead, create an independent reference sheet and provide it upon request only.
