How to Make Calendula and Lavender Shampoo
Calendula and lavender shampoo is a simple, homemade shampoo ideal for people with blond to light brown hair, as the calendula and lavender tend to have lightening effects on darker hair. Making your own shampoo will also save you quite a bit of money over buying expensive retail products, which often contain unnecessary and potentially harmful additives and preservatives to help stabilize them. Things You'll Need
- ¼ cup chopped lavender leaves
- 2 cups spring water
- 4 tbsp. liquid castile soap
- 2 tbsp. apricot kernel oil
- 4 drops calendula essential oil
- Fine sieve

Place the chopped lavender leaves in a sterilized glass jar with a tight-fitting lid.

Pour the water into a small saucepan or tea kettle and bring to the boil. Pour the boiling water over the herbs and replace the lid. Let the herbs steep for 20 minutes.

Strain the mixture through a fine sieve, reserving the liquid in a small saucepan or jar.

Add the liquid castile soap to the reserved liquid along with the apricot kernel oil and replace the lid. Shake gently to combine.

Add the calendula essential oil and shake gently before first use and all subsequent uses.

Tips & Warnings
Transfer the shampoo to a plastic squeeze bottle once the mixture cools down if you intend to keep it in the shower to avoid possibly breaking the glass bottle in the shower.
Avoid mixing or storing any type of homemade skin or hair care products in an aluminum container, as there is serious concern about heavy metals entering the body through the scalp and pores.
