How to Set Up Web Conferencing
Web conferencing is a powerful tool that can aid in communicating with business partners from the comfort of your own home. Many companies now employ web conferencing as a way to connect with their independent contractors or other work-from-home employees. Web conferencing can be set up using a simple, free-to-use program. Skype is a program that is growing increasingly in popularity and is great for using as a web conferencing tool. It supports a webcam and microphones for real-time video conferencing.

Navigate to the website www.skype.com and download the Skype application for your OS. Skype is a free program to use that will allow you to connect and conference with friends and employees. After downloading the program, run the installer and follow the install wizard instructions to fully install the program.

Launch Skype and set up your user profile. Add contacts to your contact list by selecting "Contacts">"New Contact," and entering in their information. You will see your added contacts appear on the Skype screen under the "Contacts" tab. If the contact is online, the check mark will appear green. If they are offline, the check mark will appear white. Some people may be running Skype but are not currently available. In that case, their check mark will appear yellow.

Double-click the name of the contact you wish to speak to.This will launch an additional screen. From this screen, you can select the green telephone button in the left hand corner to call the contact. This button will engage a voice chat, so make sure your microphone has been properly installed. If you have a webcam engaged, launching the chat will also turn your webcam on so that your contact can see you while you are chatting.

Add another person to your chat by selecting "Conversation">"Add People." Select the contacts you wish to add to your conversation by selecting their name(s) from the pop-up screen that appears. Each contact you select will get an invitation to join the current conversation.

Chat with your colleagues. To end a conversation, click the red telephone button that appears on the screen. This will end the chat and remove you from the conference.

Tips & Warnings
Using Skype you can also share your screen, send files, and view your previous chat history.
If you don't have a microphone or webcam, you can also use Skype as an instant messaging client.
