How to Clean Receiver Gloves
Receiver's gloves are used in football to help players grip the ball. The specialized palms made of rubber, leather or synthetic materials improve a player's hold on the ball and can be used during all kinds of weather conditions. Receiver's gloves are designed for a quick cleanup, but at times will require a more thorough washing to restore them to peak performance. Be sure to read your manufacturer's cleaning instructions, as not all receiver gloves are created alike.

1
Remove surface dirt when playing or practicing by dampening a soft cloth and running it down in streaks on the sticky areas of the gloves to restore their tackiness. Avoid allowing a buildup of dirt and grime to accumulate on the gloves, as this can cause them to wear more quickly.
-
2
Wash your gloves regularly according to the manufacturer's instructions. Many receiver's gloves can be cleaned in the washer and dryer while others should be hand-washed and allowed to drip-dry. If in doubt, follow the hand-washing method shown below.

3
Fill a bucket with cool water and one tablespoon of mild detergent. Dip the gloves into the bucket, gently squeezing and releasing the glove in the suds. Massage gloves for several minutes in the soapy water.
-
4
Squeeze the excess soapy water from the gloves and set aside.
-
5
Empty the bucket and fill with cool, clean water. Submerge the gloves in the bucket and squeeze them until they are free of soap. You may want to empty the bucket and refill with clean water for a final rinse.
-
6
Remove excess water from the gloves and lay them out flat on a towel or drying rack. Allow to thoroughly dry before using.

Tips & Warnings
For machine washing, wash gloves in cool water and tumble dry on low heat.
Some manufacturers recommend weekly washing when gloves are used heavily in order to properly maintain the grip.
Avoid wearing your receiver's gloves when you're not in games, expecting to catch the ball. Wearing them during conditioning and other drills promotes unnecessary wear, bacteria and odors.
