How to Turn on a Prius Heater

Turning on the Prius heater is more straightforward with the 2010 models, but with earlier model years the controls are hidden on a screen in the Multi-Information Display and not always obvious to novice Prius drivers.

      Turn the Prius on. The climate system will not operate when the Prius is in Accessory mode. You must depress the brake while pressing the Power button to put the car fully into On mode.

      Turn on the fan. Access to the climate controls differs by model year. Starting with the 2010 models, the climate controls are located below the stereo. In this case the buttons are solid and always visible. The fan speed control is on the top right of the climate controls. Press the "up" button to increase the fan speed. The climate controls for earlier versions are touch-screen buttons on the Multi-Information Display. In this case you press the solid Climate button on the left side of the display to show the climate controls. There are seven fan speed controls laid out horizontally in the middle of the screen with Lo on the left and Hi on the right. Press any of them to turn the fan on.

      Increase the desired cabin temperature. The Temp buttons are used to adjust the desired temperature. They are located on the top left of the 2010 controls and the bottom right of the Multi-Information Display for the earlier models. Press the "up" button to increase the desired temperature.
