How to Make a Picture Frame Stand Using Wood

Building your own picture frame stand is a great way to top off a homemade picture frame or simply replace a stand if it breaks. The project is a fun arts and crafts endeavor for children or a great way to save some money fixing a perfectly adequate picture frame stand by not buying a new one. It takes just a few short steps and at the end of the process, you'll have a good-as-new, long-lasting picture frame stand.

Things You'll Need

• Sharp ridged kitchen knife
• Wood glue
• 1/4-inch dowel
• Chisel

Instructions

1. Cut the dowel to size with the ridged kitchen knife. The length of the dowel should be approximately half the height of the picture frame to provide enough support.

2. Carve a shallow, circular hole on the back of the frame (the non-glass side) and angle the hole down so the dowel (when positioned) and frame form a 45-degree angle. The hole should be centered at the bottom of the frame--which is the end closest to the table.

3. Dab the chiseled hole with wood glue, keeping it off the side of the picture frame. Fit the dowel into the hole.

4. Hold the dowel in place for about a minute, then allow it to dry with the picture frame facedown. After a couple of hours of drying, stand the frame up. The dowel will hold the frame up.
