How to Make a Picture Frame Stand Using Wood

Building your own picture frame stand is a great way to top off a homemade picture frame or simply replace a stand if it breaks. The project is a fun arts and crafts endeavor for children or a great way to save some money fixing a perfectly adequate picture frame stand by not buying a new one. It takes just a few short steps and at the end of the process, you'll have a good-as-new, long-lasting picture frame stand.

Instructions

    • 1

Cut the dowel to size with the ridged kitchen knife. The length of the dowel should be approximately half the height of the picture frame to provide enough support.

    • 2

Carve a shallow, circular hole on the back of the frame (the non-glass side) and angle the hole down so the dowel (when positioned) and frame form a 45-degree angle. The hole should be centered at the bottom of the frame--which is the end closest to the table.

    • 3

Dab the chiseled hole with wood glue, keeping it off the side of the picture frame. Fit the dowel into the hole.

    • 4

Hold the dowel in place for about a minute, then allow it to dry with the picture frame facedown. After a couple of hours of drying, stand the frame up. The dowel will hold the frame up.
