How to Fix the Volume on My PC

With the many MP3 files available on the Internet, it is no wonder so many computer owners use their PCs as miniature jukeboxes. Computers can be used to play CDs, MP3 files and other audio files, as well as video with audio content. But if your speaker volume is too low, or the speakers don't work at all, those files will be of no use whatsoever.

Instructions

    • 1

Click on the "Start" button, and choose "Control Panel" from the menu. Click on the "Sounds and Audio Devices" applet. Look for the "Device Volume" slider. The further to the left this slider is, the lower the volume will be. To raise the volume level, move the slider over to the right and test the volume level by opening your favorite audio file.

Make sure the "Mute" button is not checked. If the "Mute" button is checked, remove the check mark from the box. Also, check the "Speaker Volume" settings to make sure they are set properly.

Attach a set of external speakers to your computer. Sometimes the volume on the built-in speakers is still too low, even with the slider moved all the way over to the right. If this is the case, adding a set of quality speakers to your system should allow you to listen to your favorite audio and video files without straining your ears.
