Instructions

    • 1

Hold up the shelf where you are going to hang it, place a carpenter's level on top so you can be sure the shelf is straight, and make a small pencil mark on the wall where the bottom edges of the shelf will go. Do the line on the top edge for the mirror.

    • 2

Choose the screws that fit into the holes of your brackets and mirror, screws that are long enough to go deep into the wall and that fit into the butterfly hollow-wall anchors if your walls are soft, if you will be placing heavy objects on the shelf, or if the mirror is heavy. Butterfly anchors may come with screws attached. Make sure the screws for the shelf are not too long for the wood.

    • 3

Place the wall brackets directly up to the wall under the lines you indicated in Step 1 for the bottom of the shelf. Be sure this is where you want them to go. Then, with a pencil, make dots on the wall through the holes of the bracket. This is where your screws are going to go after you make holes for them. Alternately, you may attach the brackets to the shelf wood with a screwdriver. Hammer the screw in a little and continue screwing with a screwdriver or drill.

    • 4

With the screwdriver or a hammer, use a screw or large nail to make holes in the wall where the pencil holes are for the shelf brackets and the mirror. Use a drill if the wall is too hard. Insert butterfly anchors all the way into the holes.

    • 5

Attach each bracket with the screws chosen in Step 2 and lay your shelf on top. If the mirror is on a string, allow the screw to stick out just enough to act as a hook to hang the string over the screw head. Otherwise, use a screw-on hook for this purpose instead of a regular screw.
