    • 1

Plan ahead. The best way to sober up fast is to take steps ahead of time to help your body handle the alcohol that you plan to drink. Eat a big meal before you begin to drink. Drinking on an empty stomach will only cause you to be affected more quickly by the alcohol and make it more difficult to sober up, since there will be nothing in your body to absorb it. In addition to drinking on full stomach, make sure you consume plenty of water before and while you are drinking to thwart the dehydrating effects of alcohol.

    • 2

Stop drinking at a reasonable hour. If you have to be at work at 9 a.m. the following morning, drinking until 3 a.m. may not be the wisest choice. It will be important to give your body to time to rest and rejuvenate. Stop drinking and make preparations to go to sleep, allowing for at least seven hours of sleep before you have to be awake again. Additionally, drink at least a full glass of water and take an ibuprofen before going to sleep. This can help prevent dehydration and a possible headache.

    • 3

Wake up your body and mind to shake off any residual effects of alcohol the following morning. Have another large glass of water and a cup of strong coffee to help wake up. Eat a hearty breakfast to give your metabolism a jump start. Additionally, allow yourself enough time to take a long shower. If you are feeling particularly sleepy, consider taking a cold shower to stimulate your body.

Tips & Warnings

  • You can substitute water for electrolyte-packed drinks, such as sport drinks. This will also help prevent you from becoming dehydrated from alcohol.

  • If coffee is not for you, drink a caffeinated soda or similar beverage to help wake you up.
