How to Make an Electric Herbal Vaporizer
Herb vaporizers release resins from leaves and buds by heating, rather than burning, the herb. Heating the resins turns them from a gummy substance to liquid vapor. Vaporizers eliminate inhalation of smoke. They use either conduction of heat directly on the herb or convection of hot air over the herb. Vaporizer users have devised several plans for homemade vaporizers. Most are unsightly, but you can construct a dressed-up conduction vaporizer. Does this Spark an idea?
Things You'll Need
- 4 feet of 1X8 board
- 6 clamps for gluing
- Saw
- Wood stain and paint to complement it
- Food jar with screw-on lid
- Drill
- 3 wood screws
- 3 feet nylon tubing
- Soldering iron with round, removable tip
- Brass bolt that fits soldering iron thread
- Brass pipe end
- 2 wire nuts

1
Cut the board into five lengths of 7 3/8 inches each. Bevel the ends of four lengths at 45 degrees. Glue and clamp two of the beveled pieces flush at opposite ends of the fifth section. Let the glue set. Glue and clamp the last two lengths to the unbeveled length and and at the same time glue and clamp all the beveled edges. Stain the box and paint the edge of the food jar lid.

2
Drill five holes in the lid: one the diameter of the soldering iron handle where it meets the heat end in the center of the lid, one the diameter of the nylon tubing off center, three the diameter of the wood screws around the edge of the lid. Drill a hole big enough to pass the soldering iron cord through on a side of the box. Drill a hole the diameter of the nylon tubing on the opposite side. Drill a hole in the center of the box top the diameter of the soldering iron handle where it meets the heating end.

3
Drill a hole the diameter of the brass bolt in the center of the brass pipe end. Remove the soldering iron tip. Center the pipe end on the heat end of the soldering iron. Attach it with the bolt. Cut the soldering iron cord a few inches from the handle. Strip an inch of insulation from all four ends.

4
Center the lid on the box top and mark the hole for the tubing. remove the lid and drill a hole the diameter of the tubing on the mark. Align the lid with the two holes and attach it with the wood screws.

5
Feed the soldering iron cord through the center hole of the box top. Feed the cut end of the cord through the side hole. Turn the box on a side and splice the cord together. Cover the spliced ends with the wire nuts. Push the soldering iron into place. Feed the nylon tubing through its holes, positioning the lid end below the heating element of the soldering iron. Turn the box upright and screw on the food jar.
