Purchase a USB to SATA adapter from an online store such as PCconnection.com. These adapter cables are not likely to be available in walk-in stores at this time, due to low demand. Once you have your adapter in hand, you are ready to add a SATA port to your laptop.

Insert the USB end of the adapter into your laptop computer with the computer turned off. Your laptop now has an additional SATA connection ready for connecting to a SATA drive. If you have a drive ready, continue to step three.
