Instructions

Unroll the batting and allow it to sit overnight. This will relax its folds and allow you to cut it accurately. According to Quilt University.com, if you can't lay the batting out overnight, an alternate technique for relaxing wrinkles is to put the batting in your dryer on low heat for about 10 minutes.

    • 2

Position the batting on top of the quilt backing. Make sure the quilt backing is facing wrong-side-up, pulled taut on all sides and secured in place. Line up the batting along the upper edge and right side of the backing.

    • 3

Smooth the batting, beginning at the center and working toward the edges.

    • 4

Place the completed quilt top on the batting layer; the upper edge and right side should rest 2 inches below the batting and quilt back edges.

    • 5

Cut the batting down to size. Remove excess material from the lower and left edges, leaving a 2-inch border around the quilt top.
