Instructions

    • 1

Clean your pruning tools before using to prevent the spread of plant diseases. Wash the blades with rubbing alcohol to disinfect them.

    • 2

Cut off any foliage that is yellowing or dead during the entire growing season. Separating out dead foliage will redirect more water and nutrients to healthy parts of the tree.

    • 3

"Deadhead" the blooms as they fade in the summer. Do not simply pinch off the blooms, snip off the whole stem with the faded flowers right down to the base.

    • 4

Cut back the yellowing foliage of the bleeding heart after the first frost. This will clear the way for new growth that will come in the spring.
