1
Lay out what you typically carry in your purse. Measure the items you carry, noting how much space is necessary for each. Use a flexible cloth tape measure to determine, on average, the inside diameter and height of your most commonly used purses.
-
2
Use your measurements to determine the desired length and width for your pocket purse organizer pattern. Cut both fabrics approximately 28 inches by 8 1/2 inches for a versatile purse organizer that can work with many different bags. You can increase this size for tote bags, bigger purses or diaper bags, or decrease it if you prefer smaller handbags.
Cut two layers of heavyweight interfacing to the same size as the fabric panels.

3
Iron the interfacing onto the back side of each fabric rectangle, according to the manufacturer's instructions.
-
4
Stack the two pieces of fabric with the front sides of the fabric facing each another and the interfaced sides to the outside. Sew around all four sides with a 1/2-inch seam allowance, leaving a 2- to 3-inch gap for turning. Trim seams to 1/4 inch and clip all four corners on the diagonal. Turn right side out and press.
-
5
Top stitch near the edge of all four sides of the rectangle.
-
6
Fold up 3 1/2 inches along one long side to form the pockets for your purse organizer. Adjust this measurement depending upon what you commonly carry. Press, then stitch along each short side. Mark the positions for pockets in your purse organizer, customizing your pockets to the items you need to carry. Stitch straight vertical lines to create individual pockets for everything you need.

Tips & Warnings
Fill your purse organizer, then roll it up and put it into your purse.
Hand-stitch small velcro tabs into your purse lining and onto the back side of your purse organizer for a more secure fit in your purse, if desired.
Choose the heaviest interfacing you can find for a good result. Lighter weight interfacing will create a floppy and ineffective organizer.
