How to Decorate With Floor Vases and Dried Flowers

Decorating with floor vases can add elegance or charm to a room if there is enough space to adequately house the vase. Floor vases fill large empty spaces or corners in a decorative manner. They also draw attention to other items in the room, such as furniture or paintings. Fill floor vases with dried flowers that hold sentimental value or ones that complement the vase. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Determine where in the room a floor vase--or group of vases--would add to the decor. Floor vases can decorate empty corners, hallways, foyers, floor space next to a shelving unit or alcoves near a staircase.

    • 2

Choose a floor vase that complements your room's decor and color scheme. An intricate, antique vase would look out of place in a contemporary room just as a simple vase might be understated in a highly decorated Victorian room.

    • 3

Place the vase in the room or corner of your choice. Look at it from all angles of the room to make sure it has the effect you want.

    • 4

Fill the vase with dried wheat grass or branches, then add dried flowers. The flowers should be proportionate to the size of the vase. For example, large sunflowers would look awkward in a small, slender vase. For smaller flowers in large vases, use a larger quantity. Again, view the arrangement from all angles in the room, and adjust as necessary.

Tips & Warnings

  • Keep the lines, shape, size, color and any other additional decorative details, such as etchings or paintings, in line with the theme of the room or space.

  • You could use the vase to add a pop of color in a monochromatic room, as well. For example, use a simple shaped lime green or red vase in a modern room decorated in white and silver.

  • Handle dried flowers carefully so they don't crumble.

  • Put the vase in an out-of-the-way place where younger children and pets aren't likely to bump into it.
