How to Attach a Yarmulke
Yarmulkes can be knitted, crocheted or felted. Some carry the famous Nike swoosh or a university logo and some are plain black velvet or suede. No matter what these small, fitted skullcaps look like, the Talmud tells us that they all serve the same purpose: to remind the wearer that God is above him. Attaching a yarmulke can be a challenge, but with a little practice (and some double-sided tape), even the bald can master wearing one.
Things You'll Need
- 4 bobby pins
- 2 flexible metal hair clips
- Velcro dots
- Double sided sticky-tape for fashion use

1
Put your yarmulke on the crown of your head. Pinch open a bobby pin and slide it under your hair and over the edge of the yarmulke above your right ear. Put the second bobby pin on the same side, so that the pins form an "X." Do the same above your left ear.

Open two of the metal clips that flex to open and flex back to close. After putting on your yarmulke, slide one open clip under the edge of the yarmulke above your right ear and flex closed. Make sure that you have clipped to the hair or your yarmulke will fall off. Repeat the same process over your left ear.

Turn your yarmulke inside out. Peel the backing off one side of a Velcro dot and affix the dot to the center of the yarmulke on the inside. The Velcro will keep your yarmulke from sliding off your hair--or your head, if you are bald or have thinning hair.

Bald guys and men with thinning hair can get some double-sided fashion tape that is used to keep low-cut dresses from gaping open. The adhesive is more "skin friendly" than regular double-sided tape. Trim the piece of tape so that it fits inside your yarmulke. Peel one side and stick it to the fabric, then peel the other and stick it to your head.

In a yarmulke emergency, covering the crown of your head with a hand will suffice as well, according to a well-known kippah joke.
